Novice Motorcycle Rider Restrictions

¨ MUST wear DOT approved helmet for one year from date of license

Restrictions for Riders under 18 years of age

¨ Take an approved motorcycle rider training program

¨ Driver / passenger MUST wear DOT approved helmet

Operating a Motorcycle without a Permit or (M-1) Endorsement

¨ Maximum $1000.00 fine and/or

¨ Maximum 6 months in JAIL

Other Motorcycle Related Items

¨ Must wear protective eye wear (windshield is acceptable for operator NOT for passenger)

¨ Handle bars / grips can NOT extend more than 15 inches above the operator’s seat / saddle

¨ Helmets MUST be DOT approved (this applies to those items mentioned above where a helmet is REQUIRED)

¨ Rider / Passenger MUST face forward on permanent attached seat / saddle when astride motorcycle

¨ 2 motorcycles may ride abreast in one lane

¨ A motorcycle MUST have at least 1 operating headlight and cannot have more than 2

¨ A motorcycle MUST have 1 taillight and 1 white light to illuminate license plate

¨ A motorcycle MUST have at least 1 brake – foot or hand operated

¨ A motorcycle MUST have a horn – audible, under normal conditions, from a minimum of 200 feet

¨ A motorcycle MUST have a Muffler(s) that have baffle plate(s)

¨ A motorcycle MUST have at least 1 mirror that has an unobstructed view to the rear of the motorcycle

¨ Turn Signals for motorcycles were mandated on ALL motorcycles manufactured after January 1, 1968
