Hi Region 16,
Halloween is over and the days are getting shorter. It seems like a day or two ago we were getting the bikes out and planning the summer.
November is here and its time to be thinking about
elections. Nominations are still open. We will be voting at the Christmas party
December 5th at
Kristy Hawthorne (legislative director) talked to us at the October meeting and explained some of the bills that the house and senate are voting on.

TJ.—Barbara Tittle stepped down as Deputy Director of our area and nominated TJ for the position. It was voted on at the state board meeting and TJ is now the Deputy Director. If you have a complaint, problem or suggestion contact TJ at webmaster@abate.com and he will help you.
It was brought to my attention that members are having problems accessing the webpage through the web browser Firefox. I will be looking into this.
Legislative-Jim Florida license plate laws.
Kristy-the House and Senate were back in session in September. They are busy working on the budget and distracted driver laws. The ROW Bill has been addressed. We need to contact our Representatives and find out where they stand on issues concerning us.
Legislative Bills are on their website. Check it out and contact as many as you can….get to know them and encourage them to back us
Kristy’s goal along with her committee is to not give a penny from the PAC Fund to Representatives unless they are backing us.
There are various things we can do….in kind contributions, stuff envelopes, work at a phone bank, and help with campaign drives to get involved with government officials. Use these opportunities to let them know what we are trying to accomplish with their help.
We need to talk with the mayors, law enforcement officials
and government officials to get them to proclaim May as Motorcycle Awareness
Month. Letters can be written in so

Distracted driving summit. Illinois Former State Legislator Ray LaHood has earned the Abate of IL Freedom Fighter Award he said its not just Enforcement its Safety, Education and Awareness as well.
ODOT-Michelle May-Lights not changing when a motorcycle is waiting at an intersection. Go to the website bike.report@dot.state.oh.us or call 614-387-0722 to report a traffic signal. They will adjust the sensitivity so that it can detect a motorcycle.
Health Care Issue—HIPPA loophole---adventurous activities like motorcycle riding, 4 wheeler riding if you are injured you can be denied Insurance benefits.
There was a motorcycle/car accident at Sheck’s IGA in Shreve. Person driving a white car hit a couple on a motorcycle. The person has not been caught and nothing has been done. Kristy spoke to the couple’s son in law and was told that there has been no investigation…
