Region 5 News February 2012

Pacing one’s self seems to be an art in itself. Some days you are way up on the world one step ahead other days you can’t gain any ground. And some days you know it’s best to just keep pace and stay even. That seems to be the secret with what we do. You just need to keep pace most of the time so you don’t burn out and say I’m done. Because long after we are gone the fight will continue so pacing is very important.
Here in region five times are changing just like everywhere else. And like the dinosaurs you change or die so now more than ever we need your input on what you expect from being a member of ABATE OF OHIO, INC. Do you expect monthly rides, safety events, training or legislation to make motorcycling better? The officers of ABATE need to hear from everyone. We are a member driven organization and like anywhere else we need to know which way our members want to steer ABATE. It is easy to sit back and arm chair quarter back so let’s keep doing the hard stuff and let us know.
I know winter is starting to affect me in mentally. I hear those laughing that know me best and say sure Ken. But we start thinking about the bike what we can do to make it faster, brake better, and look sweeter and ride smoother. Basic maintenance now can give you a better, longer, and safer riding season this year. Get out the manuals see what needs lubed what needs changed and what needs adjusted. Front fork oil is the most neglected thing on a street bike. Check nuts and bolts for correct torque and look over the frame for cracks. One way to do this is look closely at the paint; if it’s missing on welds or other areas then I would examine that area really close. If you get these things done now you will be ready to ride come the first decent day weather permits and your bike should be a lot more reliable.
February 4th is our state seminar so get out of the house and have some fun. And if you can bring an auction item it will help a lot more than you think.
