HOWDEEE!
The results of our recent elections aren’t available as I write this, so I’ll be giving them to ya next month. And I hope y’all had a great Christmas and a safe New Year’s Eve.
I rode out to the Yankee Lake Ballroom for their Nov. 6th swap meet with a few friends on a sunny day, and it was really packed! The people running it now have managed to keep up the large selection of various vendors. Fortunately I really didn’t need anything, but it’s great to see that this area still has swaps that feature plenty of individual used parts vendors, instead of just the usual T-shirts, leather, jewelry and new, shiny (as in expensive) stuff. I understand they’ll be having another one in February or March, and possibly we can make ABATE’s presence known there by having a booth and signing up some new members.
On November 13th I went to our regional meeting at the Sail Inn in Lake Milton and heard about next year’s “Meeting of the Minds” to be held here in Ohio for 2013. Further talk was of this year’s (2012) regional “Hog Roast”, our “Regional Run” for 2012, and also about the ABATE Seminar (which will soon be coming up on Feb. 4th).
On November 19th, Queen Tammy (our Regional Director) and I went down to Stark County’s meeting in Alliance. Like I always say, going to OTHER counties’ meetings is a cool thing to do because ya not only get the chance to see how they’re doing things and you get to meet new people, it also turns ya on to new places and gives ya something different to do (especially during these cold months). And the other counties ALWAYS appreciate ya coming! In fact, I keep saying how I wanna go to other regions’ meetings, but since I’m such a lazy puke these days, I rarely get off my ass to go very far. Maybe I’ll finally start doing that this year. In fact, I WAS planning on going to our state board meeting on Nov. 12th in Columbus (I haven’t been to one for a while), but my son Ben and his girls came up from Dayton for the weekend.
Later that day (on the 19th) I went to OUR meeting at the Borderline near Girard, which was great with a good turnout of over 30 people, and we didn’t even book a guest speaker this time! Lion Man gave an incredibly fine legislative report, during which he voiced his concerns about, and gave examples of, legislative “back-pedaling” (if I may paraphrase) on many issues that had been seemingly resolved, then changed and diluted afterward almost to the point of futility and impotence due to amendments by legislators in the name of bargaining..... sometimes even with the full approval of those who would be the most affected!! Well said Lion! This IS, in my opinion (and always has been) one of the most frustrating aspects of the legislative process, and Lion summed it up perfectly! The meeting continued with information concerning local and state events for 2012.
Our January meeting’s location and day will be sent to you via mail and listed on the website at http://regionzero.abate.com/ . Dig yerselves out if yer snowed in, and start off the New Year right.......with us!

                      Bummer
